One of the things that might at first seem to be difficult is the HOW TO of doing an adult education class. The thought of using an audiovisual aid like a PowerPoint deck may seem difficult. The instructions here will show how to do this for less than $200.00 in a classroom with no Wi-Fi and no internet.
Microsoft offers various versions of PowerPoint that can be downloaded to your iPhone, Android Phone, computer or Tablet in many cases for free. Microsoft offers free downloads for iPhone and iPads and for Android devices. If you already have these programs on a windows computer, you may get enhanced versions when you set up the free downloads. BUT, THE FREE VERSION AVAILABLE FOR IPHONE, IPAD AND ANDROID WILL WORK FOR YOUR CLASS. Go to your APP store search for PowerPoint and download the app.
PowerPoint
PowerPoint is a popular program so when searching there will be many items shown, all but one are ‘extra’ and useless. Many apps shown will be ‘tutorials’ these are basically fakes to trick you into downloading them. You can also create a free OneDrive account with five gigs of storage and access to PowerPoint on the Microsoft web site.
Apple Users
Your Apple devices already have Keynote the Apple presentation program that is also very good. This will run a PowerPoint, but occasionally there are changes in font sizes and color. Otherwise this program will work well for your class if you feel more comfortable in the Apple universe.
A PowerPoint must of course be displayed to be used but that is not nearly as hard or expensive as you might think.
LED TV
In a small class a 32" LED TV set is enough of course a larger one would be better. Such an LED TV is available on Amazon currently for less than $150.00.
Projector and a light-colored Wall
The other way to display a power point is to use a projector. These are no longer very expensive, you can get an LED projector on AMAZON for less than $100.00, that will work. The less expensive projectors do require a darkened room like an old fashion slide show. The brighter projectors cost more. A screen is good, but a good flat light-colored wall will work as well. Many Churches will already have a TV or Projector, but even if yours does not, we can stay well within our $200.00 budget.
The trick is getting the image from your device to the screen. If your Church has a TV or Projector, they likely also have cables to connect or they may already have an Apple TV attached.
HDMI Cables
These are available and easy to connect. I have found that they are awkward in a classroom setting. Usually they are to short. Longer ones are available for less that $25.00, but a long cable gets in the way.
Wireless
Wireless connection allows you to be anywhere in the classroom. I have found a device for under $30.00 on AMAZON that will wirelessly connect any iPhone, iPad and almost all Android tablets and phones and most windows computers. The connection is possible whether your classroom area has Wi-Fi or internet. The "ANYCAST M100" is available on AMAZON for less than $30.00. This device uses blue tooth for the connection a feature built into most modern phones, tablets and computers. Apple TV, Chrome-cast, Mira Cast and many other popular wireless devices require that there be an internet network in place.
The video instructions below will show you how to assemble and use the ANYCAST M100 to show your power point on an LED TV or a projector. Both TV and Projectors will have the same HDMI and USB hook ups needed as shown below.
